Ooh, it's Friday the 13th, and genre fans have been blessed with some strong theatrical releases to help them pass their unlucky time! For us, it's three must-see movies, each with their own special appeal.
This week is all about The Cabin in the Woods. Made in 2009, shelved until now, and hyped by just about everyone who has seen it as "Groundbreaking!" and "A game changer for the Horror genre!", this is one movie that has a lot to live up to. It does look great, and we're hoping it lives up to all of the hype. We'll let you know tomorrow. This is one of the biggest horror releases that we will see in 2012, so let's hope it kills at the Box Office.
Detention is another long delayed movie (it was shot in 2010) which is finally seeing release this weekend. It doesn't have quite the hype surrounding it that Cabin does, but it still looks pretty good... in a "this is going to be weird" sort of way. Oh, it also has Peeta from The Hunger Games in it, so it's got that going for it too. Then again it's also got Dane Cook in it, which instantly hurts its comedy credentials, but we're trying to look past that.
Finally, we have more of a Sci-fi/Action flick, but one that genre fans have to take note of. French action Producer/Director extraordinaire Luc Besson -you know, the guy that's given us La Femme Nikita, The Professional, The Fifth Element,Taken, and Colombiana, to name a few- is back with his a new movie he wrote about rescuing the President's Daughter from a space prison... space prison... Guy Pearce breaking someone out of space prison with a shit load of cool looking weapons... there's no way we can miss this one.
